My Story

1959 to 2007
aged: 48
From: Ilford

Eunice Rosetta Coker was born on the 6th April 1959 to Paul and Lucina Coker in St Peters Parish on the Caribbean Island of St Kitts.

She spent her early years living with her Grandparents, Aunts, Cousins and older sister Salome, before emigrating to England at the tender age of seven with Salome. Here she was reunited with her parents and introduced to her new brothers and sister, Lenny, Harold and baby Monica.

Eunice attended Uphall Primary School and St Luke’s Church, where she was confirmed and became an avid member of the choir. Later she joined Mount Girls School in Ilford, which later became Loxford Comprehensive.

After leaving school Eunice worked as a secretary for many years in Commercial businesses and the legal profession. It was around this time that she began her netball career with the Old True blues Association (OTBA), now called Ilford Netball Club. She spent many happy years at the club, winning promotion to higher leagues and the most improved player award. Her career ended in 1986 when she ruptured her Achilles tendon.

Eunice then embarked on a career change and moved from secretarial work to the world of IT and computer administration. Later in 1992 she met her partner William and they were blessed with two children, Westley in 1994 and Chantelle in 1998.

Eunice was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. Despite many treatments and prolonged hospital visits she continued working as a human resources specialist and was an active member in the community, working with Hawks Cricket Club and her local church.

But sadly on the 16th June 2007, surrounded by family and close friends, Eunice lost her fight against the disease.

She will be sadly missed by all, but forever in our hearts.
